Living in Northeastern PA

From Scranton and Pittston to Hazleton, Wilkes-Barre, the Poconos and the Endless Mountains, living in Northeastern PA means welcoming communities, outdoor recreation, and opportunities to thrive across the region.

Life in NEPA is about balance. Affordable housing, low living costs, excellent healthcare and education, and diverse communities make it a place people are proud to call home. With cultural experiences, thriving small businesses, outdoor recreation and close-knit neighborhoods, Northeastern Pennsylvania is where families grow, careers take root and traditions continue.

Welcome to NEPA

Northeastern Pennsylvania, or NEPA, is a ten-county region home to more than 1.1 million people. The area blends farmland, suburban neighborhoods and vibrant cities. Conveniently located along major interstates, residents are just a short drive from New York City, Philadelphia, Harrisburg and New Jersey.

Roots run deep here. Families who have lived here for generations welcome newcomers drawn by local colleges, career opportunities and tight-knit communities. NEPA embraces tradition while celebrating new cultures and perspectives.

Nature also plays a central role. Rolling hills, forested valleys, winding rivers and scenic lakes are part of everyday life, and local conservation groups work to preserve them. With protected parks, trails and green spaces, Northeastern PA ensures that future generations enjoy the same beauty.
